Can't find Google Nest speaker or display in the Google Home app

​If your Google Nest or Home speaker or display doesn't appear in the Google Home app during the setup process, try these steps.

 Initial checklist

To begin, make sure that:

  1. You're using the most recent version of the Google Home app Google Home appLearn how to update the Google Home app.

  2. Your Nest speaker or display is plugged in and powered on.

    • You can tell that the Google Home, Google Nest Mini (2nd gen), Google Home Mini (1st gen), Google Home Max, or Google Nest Audio is powered on and in setup mode when the white LED lights are blinking.

  3. You are in the same room as the device.

  4. Location services are turned on:

    • On your Android device, open the Settings app.

    • Tap Location and then turn on Use Location

    • Scroll down and tap App Location Permissions and then Home and then select Allow all the time

General troubleshooting

If you've checked off all of the steps above and you still can't find your Nest speaker or display in the Google Home app Google Home app, try one of the steps below and then look for your device. If you still can't find it, move to the next step.

Step 1. Reboot your Nest speaker or display
  1. Disconnect the power cable from your speaker or display. Leave it unplugged for one minute.

  2. Reconnect the power cable back into your speaker or display.

Step 2. Turn Wi-Fi off and on
  1. On your Android device, open the Settings app.

  2. Tap Network & internet and then Internet.

  3. Turn Wi-Fi off and then back on.

  4. Reopen the Google Home app Google Home app and try to set up your Nest speaker or display again.

Step 3. Force close and reopen the Google Home app
  1. On your Android device, swipe up from the bottom of the screen and hold.

  2. Scroll to find the Google Home app Google Home app swipe up on the app’s preview to force close it.

Step 4. Connect to your device from your phone or tablet's Wi-Fi settings
  1. On your Android device, open the Settings app.

  2. Tap Network & Internet and then Internet.

  3. Check the list of available Wi-Fi networks and look for an available network such as "GoogleHomeXXXX" (where XXXX is a random number).

    • Note: If you have previously set up your device and have not factory reset it since it lost network connection, look for the name of the device that you assigned to it in the list of available networks on your mobile device (Example: Kitchen Home).

  4. If you can successfully connect to the Google Nest or Home SSID (network name) in your Wi-Fi settings, open the Google Home app Google Home app and then set up the device again.

Advanced troubleshooting

If you're still unable to find your Nest speaker or display in the Google Home app Google Home app, try the following:

1. Try another supported setup device

If you have another phone or tablet, try to use it to set up your Nest speaker or display.

Make sure that your device meets the below requirements:

  • Android phone or tablet with Android 9.0 or later
  • iPhone or iPad with iOS 16.0 or later

Important: Make sure this device has most recent version of the Google Home app Google Home app. Learn how to update the Google Home app.

2. Move the Nest speaker or display to a different location

If possible, try to move your speaker or display to a different location that’s within 15-20 feet of your Wi-Fi router.

3. Perform a factory reset.

If the above steps don’t fix the issue, you’ll need to factory reset your Nest speaker or display. Instructions vary based on device. Learn how to factory reset your Nest speaker or display.

Important: This action will clear your data from the device and can't be undone.
