Dofus 2.0

[edit]

You should mention Dofus 2.0

"The code of DOFUS has been completely rewritten in Action Script 3 so now the leading Flash MMO will prove even faster and more responsive, while over 2,000 animations and 10,000 maps are being entirely redrawn. With this complete revision, the game will be much more fluid, attractive and fun while keeping the same minimum system requirements, gameplay and features that have made it a worldwide success through the years."

Unplanned Interruption

[edit]

The morning of July 2nd 2008 at 6:00am GMT+1, without the slightest warning the Dofus hoster disconnected all of the servers. They claim it was due to an overheating problem. All servers, websites and forums have been inaccessible since then. There has also been data loss due to the abrupt disconnection.

Dofus Logo =

[edit]

I have attempted to place the logo for Dofus on the Wikipedia entry many times already but it has failed. I am about to place a very (VERY) low-resolution image onto the site and will place all copyright claims / fair-use notices where they are necessary. Remember: this is the LAST time I am attempting to place a logo here. I will make sure EVERYTHING is in proper order before making the image public. Administrators, if you have to, please don't ban my account but rather remove the image and I will understand. Again, this is the last time I will try.

Lost in Translation =

[edit]

A lot of this article could really use some shaping up in terms of grammar and general speech. --74.32.4.190 01:35, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Iop's Heart

[edit]

I'm pretty sure that they were named 'Iop' because, when spelt backwards, it would spell 'poi', which describes the size of their brains, since Iops are supposed to be **** **** wanting creatures. At least, that's what it used to say on dofus.wikia.com.

-Edit: remember that dofus.wikia.com is not the official site, if you wanted to know the real truth why not ask the developers instead of sledging the character off- it's not iop backwards it's iop normal, yop is a drink in france. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.226.208.164 (talk) 16:11, 20 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sacrier

[edit]

The appearance description has been modified to be accurate. Plus, I deleted something along with it that made absolutely NO sense compared to the Sacrier race.

System requirements

[edit]

In the table in "System requirements" it says "see requirements" but it's hyperlink goes nowhere, was it removed?

Probably. I removed the link. - furrykef (Talk at me) 10:24, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Linux should be removed as supported system, since I don't think it is possible to run the browser-version with the flashplugin available for Linux. Or has anyone succeeded?

You can run it in the flashplayer. If Linux can support that then you don't need a browser + plugin.

Linux can run it

[edit]

I have Ubuntu and I can run it.

why is this article about to be deleted, it shouldn't be deleted. Everything seems in order to me.

Unsourced

[edit]

Since this managed to survive an AfD, would someone mind supplying some reliable sources? There is nothing in the article which comes close to a neutral third-party reliable source. Corvus cornix 20:49, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Images

[edit]

Needs some screenshots and character shots to spice it up.

Also some quest and story briefing.

name pronounciation

[edit]

how would you pronounce the name of this game? doe-fus doofus

User:X-Fi6: I am planning on making it "Dofus (IPA: /Dofus/) is a..." or "Dofus (commonly pronounced like "doh fus")..." etc.

I pronounce it doh-fuh-es, but you'll have to check the official site for what the real pronounciation is... Yugiohguy1 (talk) 06:26, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I always have heard it pronounced Doe-Fuh personally —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.92.198.1 (talk) 22:32, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

More Information

[edit]

How can a flash game be massively multiplayer online? Could someone provide a concise programming perspective or a link to an article that already explains it? There's nothing about it on Adobe Flash, Online game, or Massively multiplayer online game. A Google search brings up games mostly. I suggest the information go in Adobe Flash & all these pages link to it. Erudecorp ? * 00:21, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Too in much class/job info, not enough about the actual game.

[edit]

The article is severely lacking in certain areas, while some are too detailed. It doesn't even mention how to win battles, about hp etc.

Maybe some infomation about battlefield size/location, starting spots, etc? Infomation on tactical advantage on certain battlefields should be important to. E.g. This 'field' has both allied and Enemy starting spots close together, this can be an advantage/disadvantage etc. There is also little infomation about monsters, maybe a short bit describing variation of the creatures. e.g. little tofus (small birds) to boss monsters like the ancient oak. Also maybe a description of finding monsters, for example are they random battles as the player travels, or does the player have to actually intiate a battle by attacking a visible enemy?

Also, there is almost no mention of different provinces/cities, apart from Bonta and Brakmarian. A little infomation on the various areas, e.g. city of Astrub, Pandala, Wabbit Island, the plains, the various forests, mountain ranges etc. The article gives no indication of size of the (world) map, that the map is square based, with co-ordinates, or even how the player can travel from area to area.

There is nothing about game enviroment, the player's viewpoint, and the various pre-drawn battlefields. The reader doesn't know that the normal scenery is also the location of a battle, if a battle is started on that 'field'. The player views from which perspective, 1st? 3rd? From reading the article, it doesn't give a clear indication. There is nothing about the enviroment either. Is it a rich, 3D enviroment, where the player can interact all objects? or is it a 2D? From reading the Jobs section, can Lumberjacks cut down all trees? or are some 'untouchtable' and merely exist as scenery? The article can be quite confusing.

Is there any plot? From what i understand, there isn't.

Another thing is servers. How many are there? Is there only one english server? Are all the servers the same? Does anything differ between different servers?

The mention of character 'builds' is also confusing, as the article does not mention what builds mean. Earth/Strength Build? The article (if builds are included) needs to mention attributes, like what there is, (strength, vitality, Agility, etc). Also, bonuses regarding those attributes should be included, like allocating a characteristic point to strength grants greater storage capabilty, as well as Earth/Strength spells increasing in damage potential. Other Stats should be mentioned briefly, for example iniative, prospecting, and their respective effects. A table of builds and which classes are considered 'effective' uses of the various builds would be useful.

This could be included under a 'Level up' section. The article should discuss 'levels' of characters, and 'leveling up'. What bonuses does a level up bring? Ability to wield certain weapons? Class change? I have learnt that a 'level up' grants characteristic points to use, as well as spell points. Are there any alternative ways to improve statistics? If so, it should be included.

Spells should be overviewed, with basics on general spell types (Support, Attack, Summon), perhaps with some brief examples. Spell improvement should be covered, with the bonuses gained from doing so. I understand that improvement can change the action points needed to the range of a spells. Examples of Class Spells could be useful, though a list of all spells gained is un-neccessary.

Quests are not mentioned, even though they are very important part of gameplay. The article does not need a list of various quests, but rather what quests may require the player to do, rewards gained upon completion of a quests, and examples of some quests. (E.g. Is a typical quest kill 20 of X in 30minutes?) Are there any special effects caused by quests? Do quests allow players to accomplish things they would not ordinarily be able to do? etc. Also, are there any special cut scenes?

One section which is too detailed is the job section. A brief example of the various jobs would be acceptable. e.g. Gatherer professions are hunter, farmer, fisherman etc. The article does not need to go into depth into difficulty of leveling certain professions. The way the job section is written also implies that working is almost the core of the game, when arguably the turn based fights is the basic fundamental of Dofus.

I would write this myself, but I do not know sufficient detail about the game to so.

Terrible Paragraph

[edit]

A paragraph from an obviously disgruntled player has found its way into the entry for Dofus. Here is the paragraph:

"Since the 1.27 update the characters have been changed as have spells destroying years of work leveling and developing the characters of loyal players. This and the fact that PvP rewards have made PvE much more difficult have caused many players to quit playing or to go free to play while they wait to see if DOFUS can be fixed.Although the developers have been making massive changes to spells and equipment every week they have yet to address the core problems caused by their shoddy programing of the 1.27 update and the over rewarding of PvP.Many players that love the game and have been playing since it first was in beta have stopped renewing subscriptions or just quit."

There are no references about the amount of players the author claims have quit, and also talks about an update "destroying years of work leveling and developing the characters of loyal players. The author also makes an accusation of "shoddy programming" with no citations. Removing this paragraph, as it has no place in the top-page wikipedia description. Perhaps the author could re-write this passage, removing their opinion and write a more neutral passage in the Criticisms section if they can find some references. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.177.93.67 (talk) 05:02, 2 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bad sentence in "Dofus 2.0 section"

[edit]

I am also removing a sarcastic sentence in the Dofus 2.0 section. The author is saying that Dofus 2.0 has been promised for over 2 years, much like the delayed Ice Continent. They then say:

"The ice continent must have melted because nobody has seen it yet." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.177.93.67 (talk) 05:06, 2 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
