Redirect
I have restored the redirect to genetically modified organism as the current article is mixing up two different things, transgenesis and gene invalidation (gene knockout). In the first, DNA from another species is inserted. In the second, an existing gene is modified so that its function is changed (usually the function is completely abolished). If the KO material is taken out, nothing is left that is not already discussed in the GMO article. --Crusio (talk) 05:54, 14 July 2010 (UTC)
- I wondered about that. What about creating an article called Genetically modified mouse and re directing transgenic mouse there. The previous version could be used if it is made clearer in the article that they are two different, but similar types of genetically modified mice. AIRcorn (talk) 06:13, 14 July 2010 (UTC)
- The best way to do that would be to move this article to the new title. But be careful that there would not be too much overlap with knockout mouse. Happy editing! --Crusio (talk) 09:12, 14 July 2010 (UTC)
- Done. Can't help but have some overlap, but IMHO it is heaps better than redirecting to genetically modified organism AIRcorn (talk) 07:51, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
- I am a student studying advanced genetics at the University of Western Ontario. As part of this module I am participating in a project to edit an improve Wikipedia. Therefore I will be working extensively on this article to add detail and further information of the processes, effects and applications of various aspects of genetic modification in mice. Ranging from general techniques to specific genes (and how that subsequently reveals their function/potential application). All of this will be presented in a way that is as understandable as possible to the non-scientifically literate. Nialldunne96 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 18:46, 16 October 2015 (UTC)
