"An idealized version of the founding of Maryland, Indians
greet Leonard Calvert and his 200 settlers at the mouth of the
Potomac River in 1634. A Jesuit priest celebrates the first Mass
in the colony, conceived as a haven for English and Irish Catholics.
Later, the Toleration Act guaranteed established policy:
No Christian should 'be any ways troubled' for 'his or her religion'".ref
