Emmy award-winning American film and TV producer and writer, credited with making a star of Sally Field by casting her as the lead of "Gidget". He was also responsible for starring Judd Hirsch in the TV series "Delvecchio" and for promoting John Badham from the casting department of Universal in 1968, three years later (as executive producer) giving him his first directorial assignment.

He was a mentor to many young up-and-coming writers and directors, including David Levinson, Jerrold Freedman, John Badham, Joel Oliansky, Stirling Silliphant, Howard Rodman, Adrian Spies, Leonard Freeman, Robert Ellis Miller, Walter Grauman, Elliot Silverstein, Frank Pierson, among others.
