NEW YORK -- Companies in the U.S. have begun renewing and extending work visas for foreign employees while also applying for permanent residency on their behalf as they brace for a potential second Trump administration and hard-line immigration policies.

Asian and U.S. businesses have accelerated applications for bringing in skilled workers from overseas, say lawyers and consultants advising companies on immigration policy. Concerns of a return to policies during Donald Trump's presidency -- including entry bans against foreign nationals under various work visa categories during the pandemic -- are driving the onslaught of applications.
