NEW YORK -- Donald Trump's election to a second term as U.S. president sets the stage for economic turbulence in Asia as businesses across the region prepare for big increases in American tariffs.

During his campaign, Trump vowed to impose blanket tariffs of up to 20% on imports from all countries and levies of 60% or more on goods from China, which he has accused of unfair trade practices that have led to U.S. economic decline.
