About us
Beyond Independence. It is a unique opportunity to have a service in its entirety that focuses primarily on individual participants who dream of re-establishing a life of normality and re-integrating back into the community with new sets of skills that will enhance their lives. AMS will initially focus on the kinds of participants below: 1. Young people in care or have left the Minister for Community Services' care and who need ongoing support because of their intellectual disability or complex needs. 2. People who are re-integrating into the community after leaving prison or juvenile justice facilities, Health or have persistent contact with the criminal justice system. 3. People with an intellectual disability and complex needs often include mental health issues, behaviours of concern, substance abuse issues, acquired brain injury, a background of trauma, and behaviour that places themselves (and/or others) at risk of harm. Our Mentoring participants have the fundamental right to have their supports delivered in a safe and inclusive environment which enables them to expand their horizons and explore opportunities to: 1. Learn new skills 2. Develop prosocial relationships 3. Be a contributing member of their community 4. Improve their physical and mental health and wellbeing 5. Make choices that allow them to live the life they choose safely. We recognise that adjusting to life in the community and finding valued roles requires support and mentoring that is non-judgemental and sensitive to each person’s life experiences whilst also being aware of the impact on and tolerance of the community. The needs and goals of each person determine the type of support they receive as Mentoring services are truly personalised to individual needs. AMS delivers services to participants across Sydney, Wollongong and plans to expand to our wider rural communities.

We were established in 2020 as a compassionate father-son duo, later joined by a skilled, for-purpose, sector leader. AMS was born from a vision to bridge the gap in disability support services. Our leadership team, boasting a wealth of experience across clinical psychology, law and specialist behaviour support, harnesses a collective experience to craft tailored, empowering solutions for each individual we support. Perceiving the pressing need for a service that embraces individuals with complex needs and challenging pasts, while equally valuing the crucial role of frontline workers, we pioneered a model of care that is as empathetic as it is empowering! We believe that every single individual within the community deserves to feel safe, happy, healthy and fulfilled. International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women | White Ribbon Day Today, we unite to raise awareness and take action to eliminate violence against women. This global movement reminds us of the urgent need to create a world where all women feel safe, respected, and valued. Violence against women is not just a women's issue; it’s a human rights issue. It affects families, communities, and societies as a whole. Each of us has a role to play in ending this injustice—by challenging harmful behaviors, speaking up, supporting survivors, and promoting gender equality. At AMS, we stand in solidarity with all women and reaffirm our commitment to fostering safe and inclusive environments for everyone. Let’s work together to break the silence, challenge the norms, and be a part of the change. 💪 Take the pledge. 💬 Start the conversation. 🤝 Stand against violence. #WhiteRibbonDay #EndViolenceAgainstWomen #InternationalDay #RespectAndSafety #AMSCommunity

Today is International Men’s Day, and this year’s theme is ‘Positive Role Models.’ AMS supports men from all walks of life, many of whom have faced unthinkable challenges. We stand by their sides as they navigate their journeys, finding strength to start each day fresh and redefine their purpose. Seeing these men set new goals and work toward brighter futures inspires us every day. Their resilience and courage are a testament to the power of support! Having positive role models can deeply impact someone’s life, offering guidance, inspiration and hope during challenging times... Having positive role models empowers us to choose a better path, and become role models ourselves. This theme encourages us to recognise the men who lead with kindness, strength, and compassion. It’s also a reminder to prioritise men’s mental health and create safe spaces for open and honest conversations about emotional well-being. #InternationalMensDay #MensMentalHealth #PositiveRoleModels #AMS #AustralianMentoringServices

"Do not be embarrassed by your failures, learn from them and start again." – Richard Branson Failures are part of every journey, not the end of it. Each setback brings invaluable lessons that shape resilience, courage, and wisdom. Embrace them, reflect, and let each experience be a stepping stone toward growth. Next time you stumble, remember: every great success story includes a few chapters of failure. Don’t stop at the setback—get up, learn, and start again. 💪 #Resilience #GrowthMindset #LearnAndGrow #Inspiration #RichardBranson
