When there is smoke outside, our Safe Summer tips are to: 🏠 stay indoors with your windows and doors closed 😷 wear a P2 or N95 respirator mask inside ❄️ if using a reverse-cycle air conditioner, ensure it's in recirculate mode, so no air is drawn in from outside ⚠️ if you have access to one, use a HEPA filter to help clean smoky air and reduce the likelihood of catching and spreading airborne viruses 🏃♀️ avoid strenuous outdoor activities 📱 monitor local air quality conditions before going outside 💨 ventilate your home when the air quality outside improves to reduce indoor air pollutants and viruses 🚨 always check and follow the advice of your local emergency services. National Emergency Management Agency is leading assistance to support earthquake recovery efforts in Vanuatu, including an Australian Medical Assistance Team to help treat people who are injured. A 64-person Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) and two canines have been deployed to support recovery efforts in Vanuatu. The assistance is part of a $2 million immediate response package following the 7.2 magnitude earthquake earlier this week. It also includes: - An Australian Medical Assistance Team (AUSMAT) deployed to support health authorities treat the injured and to assess further needs - A five-person Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) Crisis Response Team and #TeamNEMA Liaison Officer to assist Australia’s consular and humanitarian response - Nine additional Australian Federal Police members in addition to the six members already posted to work with Vanuatu Police Force on the emergency response. These teams have deployed via a Royal Australian Air Force C-17 Globemaster III and C-130J Hercules, with Defence Australia ready to provide further support as needed. Australian citizens and permanent residents in Vanuatu can register with DFAT’s registration online portal (https://lnkd.in/ejCn3u5p) to receive important information and updates and should read the latest travel advice at www.smartraveller.gov.au. Interim First Nations Aged Care Commissioner Andrea Kelly spent 2024 listening to what Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples had to say about aged care. Ms Kelly travelled widely on Country, where she: ✅ met with more than 1,000 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples ✅ flew over 60,000km and drove over 8,500km ✅ held 137 engagements with community. “It was so rewarding and important to hear first-hand from all of you.” 🖤💛❤️ Hear from Ms Kelly in this video as she gives her wrap up of 2024.
