Wesfarmers Chemicals, Energy & Fertilisers Managing Director Aaron Hood caught up with Kwinana Industries Council CEO David Harrison at our CSBP facility recently. They chatted about WesCEF's long operational history in Kwinana, our decarbonisation journey, and our priorities for 2025. Take a look!

We’re thrilled to welcome 17 talented university students into the Wesfarmers Chemicals, Energy & Fertilisers 2024 Vacation Program. 👏🎉 The program helps students put their studies into practice, gain hands-on experience, and offers a pathway into our cadetship and graduate programs. Over the next three months, the students will work across our businesses in fields including engineering, agriculture, commercial, and digital & data. With the guidance of our fantastic leaders, they’ll build their skills and contribute to some exciting projects across WesCEF! We're pleased to be able to support these students on their career journey and look forward to seeing their growth and achievements during their time with us. 🚀

Congratulations to the winners of our 2024 WesCEF Thanks Awards! 🎉 Last week, we came together to recognise the outstanding individuals and teams from across WesCEF at our WesCEF Thanks Awards ceremony. Managing Director Aaron Hood presented the awards and celebrated the exceptional achievements of our team members. 🏆 The winners from CSBP, CSBP Fertilisers, Kleenheat, ModWood Technologies, and Wesfarmers Chemicals, Energy & Fertilisers were recognised for demonstrating excellence in safety, innovation, and living our values. A big shoutout to all of our finalists and the 952 individuals and teams who were nominated for awards. 🙌

We’re excited to welcome six new cadets to Wesfarmers Chemicals, Energy & Fertilisers (WesCEF) as part of our first-ever Process Technician Cadetship Program! 🎉 This program, developed with South Metropolitan TAFE, prepares students for careers in process plant operations while promoting diversity. Of the 10 graduates, nine were women, including one Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander person. Now, six cadets have joined us for an 18-month cadetship at our Kwinana operations. The program is part of our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging strategy and reflects our commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace at WesCEF. Congratulations to all the graduates and our new cadets. We’re excited to see you grow! 👏

Wesfarmers Chemicals, Energy & Fertilisers is proud to have been selected as a finalist for the Environmental Sustainability Excellence Award at the AIM WA Pinnacle Awards.    We extend our congratulations to all the finalists and winners, in particular AMCAP for taking away the win for our category.

💡 Together with our partner, APA Group, we’ve published a knowledge sharing report, which explores the potential of green hydrogen production and transportation in Western Australia. With funding from Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), Wesfarmers Chemicals, Energy & Fertilisers and APA Group spent almost 12 months scoping the feasibility of producing green hydrogen south of Perth and piping it to WesCEF’s Kwinana-based ammonia plant via the repurposed Parmelia Gas Pipeline (PGP). APA Group is assessing the ability to convert the southern 43-kilometre section of the PGP to transport pure hydrogen – an achievement that would be a first in Australia. The study was undertaken as part of WesCEF’s commitment to exploring the conversion of existing industrial infrastructure to support the journey to Net Zero. Wesfarmers Chemicals, Energy & Fertilisers carbon capture and storage (CCS) project with Mitsui E&P Australia (MEPAU) – Cygnus CCS Hub – has received an $11 million grant from the WA Government. The funding will support advancement of the Hub, which is located in the Mid West of WA. Cygnus CCS will utilise depleted gas reservoirs in the Mid West to store carbon dioxide emissions from WesCEF’s Ammonia plant and from MEPAU's Waitsia Gas Plant. The Premier of Western Australia, Hon Roger Cook and Minister for Mines and Petroleum Hon David Michael, announced the grant today as part of the State’s inaugural CCUS Action Plan. General Manager Climate Opportunities & Environment Mussaret Nagree said the grant demonstrated how industry and government could work together to tackle climate change effectively. 🎉 WesCEF recently celebrated the achievements of outstanding students at Gilmore College Clontarf Academy Awards Night in Kwinana. We are proud to be long-term partners with the Clontarf Foundation, which supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander boys through education and skill development. Highlights included recognizing 17 students for their impressive attendance and honoring Year 12 student Lemarr Acosta as the ‘Overall Champion’. Congratulations to Luigi for reaching a milestone 35 years with our CSBP Fertilisers business! 👏 👷♂️   Growing up in Lake King (465km southeast of Perth), Luigi thought, very happily, that being a farmer was his future. When he was 12 however, his family moved to Perth and it wasn’t until Luigi’s first real job out of university with CSBP Fertilisers, that he found his way back to his agricultural roots. “My job with CSBP is one step removed from farming, but I’m still involved with some of the decision-making aspects of farming… there has been no other job that has taken my interest and CSBP has been good to me.” Luigi said. It’s no surprise that Luigi has seen a few changes in the business and across the Agricultural industry in his 35 years.
