When working with an open concept floorplan or “Great room” the challenge in interior design is always how to define the separate uses and keep the space from feeling cavernous. In this new construction home, careful thought was given to the floorpan to visually extended the center hall from the front entryway through the great room at the back of the house. From the front door, the round table with its large vase seen here are the focal point at the end of that long hall. The large cased openings off the “hall” between the kitchen and the family room makes for two distinct spaces in an otherwise open concept room. {DIY Door Casings}…the easy way.

We finally finished our door casings! And although it was a pretty easy project, it did seem to take us a long time. We just couldn’t seem to find a stretch of time to finish. We’ve been done with this project for a couple of months, but picture taking has been on the back burner. Overall, I think they look great. And I am surprised at how they lift the overall look of our ceilings, which I think help make our rooms look taller and larger. We succeeded in finding a way to remove/demolish…
