Big Hina Matsuri x Secret Sakura Spot 🎎🌸 A few days ago, I went to Katsuura City in Chiba Prefecture to witness one of the biggest Hina Matsuri (Dolls Festival) in Japan. The festival showcases about 30,000 Hina dolls displayed throughout the city and around 1,800 Hina dolls lined up on the stairs of Tomisaki Shrine. Every year on Mar. 3, the Hina (Doll) Festival is held to pray for the health of young girls. (It is also known as Momo no Sekku, an auspicious date that traditionally marks the coming of spring.) The custom is said to have begun in the Heian era (794-1185) when people would try to drive away evil spirits by transferring them to dolls.
