Missing revenue targets can be a symptom of three things in high-growth SaaS companies: 1. Lack of relevant messaging at different stages of the buyer's journey 2. Lack of proper, segmented pipeline being delivered to sales reps 3. Lack of experience in certain parts of the sales process on the rep’s part If the issue is #1, get marketing to help fill in the content gaps. If it’s #2, review how you segment the market and feed your team leads. If it’s #3, focus on improving training, coaching, and support for your reps. If you want to improve your sales team’s performance, here’s some advice from Vinny Prajka, Partner at JMI Equity: keep them focused on one market segment. “Context switching is hard. It’s hard for a customer. It’s hard for a sales rep,” he says. “Spending more time replicating what you’re doing is a lot easier for your salesperson.” Turn your sales reps into experts in one area, and they’ll outsell your competition. Are your sales team members focused on specific industries, company sizes, or use cases? (p.s. How much should churn influence your decision to acquire a small SaaS solution? ⚖️ In our chat with Andrew Pierno, Co-Founder at XO Capital, a micro equity fund, he acknowledges it can be hard to turn around an asset where churn is outpacing growth. “I would take lower growth over high churn any day,” says Andrew. However, investors don’t have to be turned off by retention issues. In fact, there’s a “goldilocks zone” of acceptable churn that indicates a business may still be viable. Here are a few instances where low retention rates may not be an investment dealbreaker: 1. The business is young (under 2 years old) and hasn’t had time to truly see LTV. 2. The team hasn’t experimented with pricing to see what the market will bear. 3. The solution is in a niche market with higher churn rate benchmarks. 4. If the churn issues are obvious and easy to fix—like simple product bugs. Tune into this episode of Private Equity Value Creation for more insights into micro-investing --> https://lnkd.in/e_5K6VZp
