A woman's corset or pair of stays in white cotton jean (twill weave) lined with a plain woven white cotton. It is entirely handsewn in tan cotton thread in backstitch. There is a decorative pattern of four hearts and arches sewn over the bust. A plain wooden busk is inserted in the slot at the front. There are nine ivory eyelets on each side of the back.

The Idea and Inspiration: The pattern for this corset was based on an extent corset from a private collection in California. The corset is a fairly comfortable, flexible, generic style which works well for the entire second half of the 19th century. I love the corset pattern, and have made dozens of corsets based on it.
