The four basic temperaments or "humors" were developed by the ancient Greek physician Hippocrates as a medical theory to describe aspects of a personality. A personality, as a whole, is too unique and complex to fit into a four quadrant box. A temperament is a piece of the personality; it is the fundamental, innate nexus of an individual.

Phlegmatic

Another four temperaments table, using Wikipedia smilies. In five temperament theory, Phlegmatic face is really Supine, and Phlegmatic should be a plain face. Supine would be "strong-willed" only in the sense of enforcing someone else's decisions, and is only "unemotional" in the sense of hiding them.

I am the epitome of this personality type. Married to a sanguine of course, because who else could put up with him?
