"Dragon Scale" turquoise comes from the Hubei district so is Hubei turquoise. The veins of turquoise in Hubei can be quite thick. The turquoise at the top of the vein has been stained by millions of years of mineralization coming from water seeping through the ground above. The stain typically goes only about 1/4 inch into the turquoise vein, after that it just looks like turquoise either blue or green. But the top of the vein, where this lovely oval stone originated, does show that mineralization. The Chinese often refer to a vein of turquoise as a sleeping dragon. Hence, the turquoise from the outside of the sleeping dragon is Dragon Scale. Now you know...the rest of the story.
