A beautifully rich 10k yellow gold late Victorian, Edwardian era monogrammed locket. Sculpted with a raised repoussé wreath encircling the pendant on both sides and personalized with hand-engraved cursive initials MKC. American 1885-1895. In excellent antique condition, this locket measures 1" (diameter) x 1 3/8" (with bail and jump ring). The interior has a removable fitted rose gold bezel, and a protective celluloid lens to hold a picture or other keepsake in place. It opens and closes securely. There are some cross marks on the inside cover, possibly where someone previously tested it for gold. Otherwise, no dents or damage is visible. A truly beautiful and satisfying warm yellow gold sculpted in crisp high relief. Unmarked this antique locket tests as 10k gold purity.
