Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
Without a child rights based approach, the SDGs will never be fully achieved.
A child rights-based approach is key for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) All goals and targets of the 2030 Agenda are relevant for children, even where they are not explicitly mentioned. Children’s rights need to be respected, protected and promoted in all areas of implementation of the SDGs. In preparation of the 2017 Human Rights Council Annual Day on the Rights of the Child and accompanying Resolution, Child Rights Connect gathered expertise from its global network in a position paper on a child rights-based approach to the SDGs. Representatives from more than 30 Permanent Missions and NGOs participated in the discussion at our inter-sessional side event and we succeeded in ensuring that the first Human Rights Council resolution on the rights of the child and the
SDGs is grounded in a child rights-based approach.
