CIFAR Forum on Radical Interdisciplinarity
The CIFAR Forum on Radical Interdisciplinarity will engage exceptional junior faculty and postdoctoral scholars to identify frontier topics in interdisciplinary research and provide opportunities for early career researchers to take risks working across the academy. This year’s theme is Boundless, encouraging participants to think about the limits and limitlessness of life not bounded by disciplines, borders, and species, from the smallest cells in living systems to exploring life outside our planet. In partnership with the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), the forum will be held from March 25-28, 2025 in Geneva, Switzerland.
Read the full description of the theme here.
Applications will be accepted until December 5, 2024. If you have any questions, please contact us at nextgen@cifar.ca.
Participants will:
- Explore challenges on the horizon
- Outline an interdisciplinary research agenda that values intellectual risk-taking
- Network with peers and participate in blue sky brainstorming for future collaborations
Travel and accommodation for all successful applicants will be paid for by CIFAR.
Interested applicants must be within 10 years of receiving their PhD and hold a postdoctoral or faculty position based in Canada or Switzerland. Participants outside these jurisdictions who meet the career-stage criteria and who have participated in a CIFAR program may also apply. Applicants are required to submit a CV as well as describe how their research connects to the theme, their commitment to interdisciplinary research, and how attending the symposium would benefit their academic career.
SELECTION
Applicants are reviewed for basic eligibility, and then evaluated on how their research connects to the theme and their commitment to interdisciplinary research. CIFAR is committed to creating a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment and research community. We encourage proposals that embrace the theme and aim to look for new avenues of inquiry.
