India
Since CIFF began its operations in India in 2008, our local team has worked closely with partners to co-create and implement solutions that align with India’s developmental vision. Sustainability is at the heart of CIFF’s programmes, which can only be achieved through meaningful collaboration and partnerships with both Central and State governments. Our long-standing partnerships include a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Government of Rajasthan, as well as formal collaborations with departments in the State Governments of Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Assam, and Mizoram.
We work across the country to develop demand-driven solutions. Our support primarily takes the form of:
- Technical assistance: Strengthening public delivery systems through capacity building, knowledge management, planning support, etc.
- Evidence generation: Support in creation of rigorous evidence that can strengthen our programme delivery.
Together with our partners and the Indian government, we aim to address critical moments in the lives of women and children, unlocking better outcomes and paving the way for long-term, sustainable improvements. All programmes supported by CIFF are grounded in local evidence and tailored to meet local needs, focusing on the following key areas:
Child Health and Development
Improving maternal, child health and nutrition outcomes, with a specific focus on birth outcomes.
Examples:
- Facilitating Learning and Action Groups: Reducing neonatal and maternal mortality by empowering community members to take informed action around health outcomes. This led to a 24% reduction in neonatal mortality, 11,803 newborn lives saved and 8 million women reached through government platforms.
- Global Initiative on Digital Health: Launched at the G20, this will facilitate the implementation of the Global Strategy on Digital Health 20-25, allowing for global cross-learning and information sharing on best practices in health.
Girl Capital
Improving educational and financial outcomes for girls and women to avert child marriage, delay first pregnancy and increase female labour force participation.
Examples:
- Mission Buniyaad: Supporting the design and scale-up of India’s largest EdTech programme with the Government of Rajasthan to improve learning levels and pass percentages of girls. This programme has reached 350,000 girls across 3,000 schools and a 10% increase in learning outcomes.
- Skill Impact Bond: In partnership with NSDC, this is the first development impact bond for skilling, to transform skill provision and transition to employment through a dedicated focus on women. Currently, this initiative has enrolled 18,000 youth with 70% of them being women.
Climate
Supporting India’s vision for a low-carbon, climate resilient future across sectors like power, transport, agriculture and industries.
Examples:
- Unnat Kheti: Supporting natural farming though low-carbon agriculture practices enabling an increase in farmer income and gender equality. This has led to 77% of targeted farmers adopting natural practices.
- International Solar Alliance: Supporting the creation of a conducive regulatory and policy environment in member countries to increase solar deployment across the globe.
Sexual Reproductive Health
Supporting India’s Family Planning 2030 vision to increase agency of women through access to contraceptives and safe abortion.
Examples:
- India Choices: Helping to empower women of all ages by increasing the prevalence and options relating to India’s contraceptive method mix, with an emphasis on user-controlled methods.
- Udaan: Multi-sectoral approach to prevent child marriages and early pregnancies through access to scholarships, expanding contraceptive choice and comprehensive sex education. 28,000 child marriages and 45,000 early pregnancies have been averted.
