CNA Practice Test: Safety and Emergency Procedures 2

As a health care professional, the CNA must be prepared to respond to a variety of patient and environmental emergencies. Although you must follow your facility’s policies, there are general principles that you can use in most situations. As the staff member who has the most contact with patients, you may be the first person to spot and report an emergency. No matter where you take your CNA examination, you can expect questions about Safety and Emergency Procedures on both the written and skills portions of the exam. All states and test providers will ask you to demonstrate that you know how to protect your clients in various situations. In some states, up to 18% of the questions can be about safety. Preparing for this important examination can be stressful. To help you, we offer practice tests that contain Safety questions similar to the ones you’ll be asked when you take the CNA exam. We encourage you to take each practice test several times. Each time you take the test, the order of the questions will be randomized. This technique improves your learning and increases your confidence of passing the CNA examination. The topics covered in this Safety and Emergency Procedures practice test include the following:
  • Patient falls: how to prevent them and what to do if a fall happens
  • Understanding medication side effects
  • Identifying common medical emergencies, including stroke and shortness of breath
  • Safety during a fire
  • What to do if a patient vomits
