Watch me work on this mosaic, taking inspiration from the colours of the coast. The simple design focuses on the colours and textures of the materials. Pieces are set into a bed of pigmented tile adhesive/thinset. This mosaic measures 2.5x3.5 inches and was made as part of a challenge to create a nature inspired mosaic every day.

Abstract Mosaic

How to split slate: part of the preparation for making a mosaic with slate.

I use a spokeshave/plane blade for splitting slate but a chisel will also work. This technique is used to thin down the slate and then it can be more easily broken/cut with other tools.
