NASA has canceled its moon rover mission due to costs and launch delays. The mission aimed to send a robotic rover to the lunar surface in 2022. Originally estimated at $250 million, costs soared to over $500 million due to challenges. The rover was to explore the moon's south pole for water ice, a potential resource for future human missions. At @Hepha3D, we’re always looking for ways to give back to our community. A few months ago, we were honored to support the LeoCraft Design Team by 3D printing and manufacturing components for their rover, which they entered into @nasa’s 2024 Human Exploration Rover Challenge. 🌍🚀 Despite all the challenges they faced, we’re thrilled to hear that the LeoCraft team earned the NASA Engagement Award for their incredible efforts! 🎉👏 #Hepha3D #CommunitySupport #3DPrinting #NASAChallenge #LeoCraft ... It's not an easy task to build a rover that can navigate the harsh Martian surface. Scientists and engineers at NASA continue to improve the mechanics that allow for these robots to safely traverse dangerous rocks, hills, and craters. Try your hand at what it takes! This activity takes you through the steps of building of rover that can explore surfaces out of this world! The next rover is scheduled to land on Mars in February, and the GBT is playing a support role in the mission!
