Lil Grizz is determined to give each hat the needed time and attention to detail. However, we are also headed into the summer season and have some family and business events which will take time away from the shop. The Mule-y is an old style hat. It is often seen in the very early photos of the old west, cowboys, and cattle drives. This is a unique hat designed by Mizz Grizz based on many old photos. This hat is perfect for anyone who wants the shape of a historic cowboy hat. It has an average crown height of 5 1/2" and brim width of about 3 1/2". Like all Lil Grizz Hats, these original hats are totally hand made. Lil Grizz and Mizz Grizz block their fur felt hats without a blocking machine using pre-1800 methods. They also do all the final shaping of the crown and brim with only steam and a touch of their skilled hands. Therefore, each hat has a one of a kind look instead of being exactly like another of the same style. Lil Grizz's signature pencil curl is not just a decorative touch. It is necessary to maintain the strength of the brim since we do not use a steam press or bind or welt the brim. Their unique comfort sweatband is made of an absorbent material that is covered with cotton cloth for a comfortable custom fit. The signature pencil curl on the brim strengthens the brim in the traditional manner as well as adding a touch of class to your new treasure. ... And don't worry about going out in the rain.... It is a working hat and safe for wear in all types of weather. All our hats are custom made to fit your head instead of just made to a hat size. You will need to measure your head to the nearest 1/8th of inch using a sewing tape measure. It is best to have a second person to help you get an accurate measurement. NOTE: Hats By Grizz does not supply any outer hat bands as there are too many options and we feel that a customer's hatband is a personal statement. (We can recommend various artisans who create leather, bead work, and quill work hatbands upon request.) NOTE: Due to our use of the wood stove, antique non-mechanized tools, traditional methods and hand shaping each hat will have variations of shape and will arrive with a slightly distressed look and feel.
