British English: No. 322 (Dutch) Squadron RAF badge. Heraldic description: In silver a red-tailed parrot in natural colours, sitting on a gold stick. The whole is surrounded by the established frame, with Arabic numerals of saber '322' on the oval-shaped plate and with the emblem saying 'niet praten maar doen' (Dutch for 'don't talk but do'). Symbolic meaning: Polly Gray is the name of the mascot of the Dutch 322 Squadron. In August 1943, one of the squadron's officers returned from leave from London, bringing this red-tailed parrot with him. This first Polly Gray came from the London zoo. The emblem was awarded by HM King George VI for participation as a Fighter Squadron in the RAF during the Second World War in the 322 Squadron. The spell 'don't talk but do' symbolises the squadron's activities. Nederlands: Heraldische beschrijving: In zilver een roodstaartpapegaai in natuurlijke kleuren, zittend op een gouden stokje. Het geheel omgeven door de vastgestelde omlijsting, met op het ovaalvormige plaatje in Arabische cijfers van sabel '322' en met de embleemspreuk 'niet praten maar doen'. Symbolische betekenis: Polly Grey is de naam van de mascotte van het Nederlandse 322 Squadron. In augustus 1943 keerde een van de officieren van het squadron terug van verlof uit Londen, en bracht daarbij deze roodstaartpapegaai mee. Deze eerste Polly Grey kwam uit de Londense dierentuin. Het embleem is wegens deelname als Fighter Squadron in RAF-verband tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog aan het 322 Squadron toegekend door Z.M. Koning George VI. De spreuk ‘Niet praten maar doen’ symboliseert de activiteiten van het squadron. |
