Here are my steps for creating the perfect buttercream stencil:

1. Make sure your cake is fully set and the buttercream nice and chilled. You can use the freezer to save time but I prefer a longer time in fridge just to reduce chances of condensation.

2. Rub vegetable shortening on the entire backside of the stencil. This will not only help the stencil stick closely to the side of the cake, but also help prevent the base buttercream from pulling up with the stencil.

3. Apply buttercream to the entire stencil design and slowly and evenly scrape away the excess until a thin even layer remains.

4.
