New paper out: Caroline Stockman (University of Winchester) examines the human-technology relationship in current uses of generative AI (GenAI) through the lens of existential philosophy. Unser Forschungsprojekt NEOVEX hat in den letzten drei Jahren intensiv daran gearbeitet, Verschwörungstheorien und rechtsextreme Ideologien in Krisenzeiten zu untersuchen. Gemeinsam im Verbund mit vier Partnerinstitutionen – dem IFSH, dem Weizenbaum Institute for the Networked Society/FU Berlin, der Hochschule für Politik an der TU München und dem Institut für Demokratie und Zivilgesellschaft – haben wir analysiert, wie solche Narrative entstehen, sich verbreiten und wie digitale Plattformen darauf reagieren. Den Abschluss des Projekts haben wir gestern in Berlin, in der Landesvertretung Hamburg, mit einer spannenden Podiumsdiskussion gefeiert. 🥳 Unsere Veranstaltung „Umkämpfte Wahrheiten: Verschwörungstheorien im digitalen Zeitalter und die Stärkung demokratischer Resilienz“ war ein großer Erfolg – mit über 80 Teilnehmenden aus Zivilgesellschaft, Wissenschaft, Stiftungen und Öffentlichkeit! 👏 Diskutiert haben unsere großartigen Gäste: Katharina Nocun (Autorin und Netzaktivistin), Andreas Speit (Rechtsextremismus-Experte, taz), Stefan Uecker (Leiter des Referats H III 1 – Wehrhafte Demokratie und Extremismusprävention im BMI) sowie unsere NEOVEX-Wissenschaftlerin Annett Heft – moderiert von Maik Fielitz vom IDZ. What if decision-making models do more than just describe decisions—what if they actively shape them? In a recent #WJDS paper, Uli Meyer & René Werner (both Johannes Kepler Universität Linz) argue that models from organizational theory and artificial intelligence are performative, influencing how decisions are understood, modeled, and enacted. Wie verändert generative #KI unsere Arbeitswelt? Wird sie uns ersetzen oder unsere Fähigkeiten erweitern? Das neue Weizenbaum Discussion Paper beleuchtet, wie generative #KünstlicheIntelligenz (GKI) sinnvoll eingesetzt werden kann – und stellt 5 Thesen auf, wie Mensch und Maschine zukünftig zusammenarbeiten könnten. Die Thesen: 1️⃣ Trotz technischer Durchbrüche stellt GKI kein Äquivalent zu menschlicher Intelligenz dar. 2️⃣ GKI wird durch menschliche Arbeit nutzbar. 3️⃣ GKI stellt eine neue Qualität der Interaktion zwischen Mensch und Maschine dar. 4️⃣ Die Einführung von GKI macht Arbeit. 5️⃣ Generative KI erfordert neue Antworten im Sinne guter Arbeit. Darin untersuchen Florian Butollo, Ann Katzinski, Christine Gerber, Esther Görnemann, Mareike Sirman-Winkler, Marlene Kulla und Justus Spott die Auswirkungen von GKI auf die Arbeit in Programmierung, Journalismus, Marketing, Personalmanagement und öffentlicher Verwaltung empirisch. Gefördert durch das Bundesministerium für Arbeit und Soziales, widmet sich das Projekt der Frage, wie KI unsere Arbeit verbessern kann – ohne unsere Kompetenzen zu verdrängen. 3 members of our core team, Lukas Seiling, Ulrike Klinger and Jakob Ohme, are discussing the draft delegated act on #DSA40 non-public data access in a recent text for Tech Policy Press. It includes a summary of the draft and the highlights central points welcomed by the scientific community. However, they also argue that the current text falls short in providing a solid foundation for the risk governance framework set out by the DSA as it suffers from a limited conception of empirical research while not ensuring reliability & accessibility of non-public data access.
