Revision as of 17:40, 11 December 2024

To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.

  • Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
  • Offer a correction if possible.
  • References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
  • Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 17:00 on 5 January 2025) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
  • Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
  • Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems because this is not a talk page. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
  • No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
  • Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
  • Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed or determined not to be an error, or the item has been rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

Errors in the summary of the featured article

Please do not remove this invisible timestamp. See WT:ERRORS and WP:SUBSCRIBE. - Dank (push to talk) 01:24, 29 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

"Other topics of non-fiction include military history." As a general statement this is true, but it tells us nothing about Deighton. I think what was intended is 'He also wrote on other non-fiction topics, including military history.' I've made that correction in the article, could the blurb be updated to match? Modest Genius talk 12:12, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It's a summary, and this isn't an error. - SchroCat (talk) 12:25, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
However i do agree with you to an extent Modest Genius could also be correct. ILOVEJACKKELLY (talk) 15:57, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Seems an error to me. It's a blurb about Len Deighton, and that sentence is currently unconnected to him, or the rest of the blurb. Three extra words to fix it isn't excessive. Modest Genius talk 16:21, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
A pronoun (various are available at your local supermarket) wouldn't go amiss. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 12:47, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry i was talking to SchroCat and how you could also be correct.Bad punctuation.Lmao ILOVEJACKKELLY (talk) 16:00, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

In the middle of the blurb it should be: "Many of his books have been ... favourably compared to John le Carré" not "compared with John le Carré", i.e. establishing similarity not difference. Ericoides (talk) 13:00, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's implicit. We would not expect "compared" to mean that one is great and the other is rubbish. Again, it's a summary and we save words where we can. Wehwalt (talk) 15:55, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What SchroCat said, as elaborated by Wehwalt. Gog the Mild (talk) 15:58, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I also think that Modest Genius could possibly be correct to some extent. ILOVEJACKKELLY (talk) 16:16, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
