Hajduk leader Elia Peraizza arrived from a large family listed as Morlach by Italian sources. This big tribe, rather than a family, inhabited large territories of Dalmatia, being centered around Zara ([Zadar]) and Sebenico ([Šibenik]). They had own parochial constitution (according to the document from 1611 found in a Church nearby Trogir, the Bishop Zmino listed it first). Italian documents refer to this one, claiming there are about 400 armed men right now but Peraizza can rise about 1400 more ("Gente del Peraizza poste in diverse ville di Zara e. Sebenico giusta le notte del suo paroco ......................N° 400 1400" (1685).
In 1675 Elia Peraizza joined forces withVenice Republic to fight Turks, gaining the title of "sardar" and Venetian recognition of his rule over the acclaimed territory. A recent research shows that: "In autumn 1685 Provveditore Generale Pietro Valier gave a large part of land in contado of Zara and Sebenico to the new Morlach subjects from Lika and their harambasas Nakić (Nachich) and Peraica (Peraiza) although he doubted their intentions and had previously conducted long negotiations with them. (...)" (Mayhew, 2008:232). Still, according to Venetian documents he was given rule to share with Jankovich.
It is notable that another Peraizza, Francesco was an official Venetian representative in Spalato (Split) around 1675. So, there might be a slight confusion of family names, written in four different ways in different documents (Peraizza, Peraiza, Perajica, Peraica), still read the same way. Despite, today only about hundred of people carrying any of its versions can be found on territory of Dalmatia carrying any of its versions.
One Perajica was also a football player of the winning team HNK Hajduk Split in 1929.
