Re-Write

[edit]

I completely re-wrote the article for these reasons:

1. The last version was cut/paste verbatim from the NoMa Business Improvement District website. Their site is riddled with factual inaccuracies (a good example is refering to the original area as "industrial" when dozens of residences were razed to facilitate development). 2. The last version asserts NoMa is a neighborhood. NoMa is a brand name in the same sense as the Atlas District, which is a commercial designation. 3. The last version has subjects (neighborhoods, buildings, infrastructure, history) that are very well documented across Wikipedia.

The new version focuses on:

1. What the word NoMa is (a portmanteau) 2. Where NoMa is located (North of Massachusetts Avenue) 3. The neighborhoods comprising NoMa 4. How NoMa came to be 5. The landmarks and buildings features of NoMa

If the NoMa BID wants to add content, it should be in a separate section. If the content is detracts from the original point of the article (presenting NoMa), an article specific to the BID should be created.

"Neighborhood"

[edit]

NoMa is not a recognized neighborhood of the District of Columbia. One would be hard-pressed to find anyone other than the Business Improvement District members/personnel that identifies it as such. Let's start with that in mind and rebuild this article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.92.165.134 (talk) 03:11, 29 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree with the approach that you've taken. The old version was more encyclopedic and fact based; also, blogs are typically not acceptable as references. Doctor Whom (talk) 00:05, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I will construct a more encyclopedic that is historically and factually more accurate. In the interim I will also work to have the "neighborhood" removed from the map as well as the overall District of Columbia listing. Fact of the matter is nobody but developers and the media have described NoMA as a neighborhood. To date it has one residential building that is 5% occupied. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 140.32.122.60 (talk) 20:10, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Feel free to rewrite the article, but please bear in mind WP:V, WP:NPOV, and WP:NOR. Thanks. Doctor Whom (talk) 19:46, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
