Does anyone know why the English name of this bank is completely different from the Chinese name? It may have gone on for decades and I'd like to know what the historical basis is. Thanks. Xiner 15:36, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

During Qing and ROC period, the ministry of communications (Jiaotong bu) of Chinese government was in charge of post service, transportation service, and communication service. This bank used to be a subsidiary of the ministry of communications. That's why it is called "bank of communications". Another legacy is that the English name of "Jiaotong bu" in PRC is still "the ministry of communications", although today it is only in charge of transportation service and has no relation to "communications".
