Possible additions?

[edit]

Any comments on adding the Hapag Lloyd A310 accident where it ran out of fuel and crash landed at VIE, ripping off an engine and part of the wing?

How about the 1985 attack, mostly at El Al but some shots were fired at the Pan Am counter, which was by the staircase away from the main departure hall. Archtransit 15:52, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Airport name

[edit]

The article had the name Vienna International Airport.

Austro Control, Austria's air navigation service provider, publishes the Aeronautical Information Publication (AIP) on behalf of Austria's Department of Civil Aviation. The publication is in two languages, German and English. In the English part of the AIP, the airport is called Wien-Schwechat airport.

AD1, Introduction, Aerodrome/availability PDF, p. 31.

The airport operator, the Flughafen Wien AG, on the other hand, calls the airport the Vienna Airport on their English web site.

Economic significance of Vienna Airport

The airport operator does not seem to use the name "Vienna International Airport" any longer, except for one logotype with those words on the web page.

I suppose the AIP is a higher authority than the airport operator, so i moved the article to the name "Wien-Schwechat Airport".

Within an hour, my edits were reverted, and i was informed that this is English Wikipedia.

I just don't think it's a good idea to call the article the "Vienna International Airport" when the AIP doesn't use that name at all and the operator mostly calls it something else on his web site. --K1812 (talk) 00:42, 22 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@K1812: WP:COMMONNAME is clear that the change you made was not advisable. Andrewgprout (talk) 02:12, 22 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@K1812: I think "Wikipedia does not necessarily use the subject's "official" name as an article title." is the section from WP:COMMONNAME that Andrewgprout was referring to. I hope that makes it clearer! Airbornemihir (talk) 15:52, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
As Austro Control, Austria's air navigation service provider, which also handles ATC in Austria, calls the airport the Wien-Schwechat airport in English in the AIP, i have added that name to the other airport names. --K1812 (talk) 17:07, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

The article is outdated, says the terminal "is planned" to open at the end of 2020, did it open or not? Idotrytohelp (talk) 19:47, 8 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
