Pronunciation
[edit]The IPA pronunciation seems to be wrong. As explained in the article, and discussed here, his father (whether biological or not) was mexican, and that's where he got his name from. Aguirre is pronounced differently in the original spanish (the u is silent). While this is indeed how commentators usually pronounce his name, it is wrong. Thus, removing the IPA pronunciation from the article (I don't know enough phonetics and the IPA to put the correct pronunciation myself). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Goens (talk • contribs) 05:38, 2 November 2023 (UTC)

Mark Aguire is NOT Latino, I've been told. The story I got long time ago by someone who scouted him for the Puerto Rican basketball league, is that he was given his last name in Chicago by a Mexican gentleman who was not his bilogical father. He is African American. Please double check. |

You are correct. He is African American. I am his second cousin. My Grandfather is Mark's Uncle. He is my mom's second cousin. Our family tree gets a little complicated. There are two Spanish names on my mother's side. They are Aguirre and Dominguez. From what I was told, two Spaniards (yes Spaniards)from Mexico moved to the US from Chihuahua, Mexico. They both had children with two young African American women. This happened in Ohio. Their children moved to Chicago, Il. I don't want to go into the deeper specifics, but the above comment is correct. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2604:5500:5081:6D00:4C72:C5C3:CCB:D1FC (talk) 21:54, 10 November 2018 (UTC)
