Jan Bosch, also called Jan Durps, was a Dutch linen weaver from Maastricht. He is an anabaptist martyr who was burned at the stake for heresy by the Inquisition on 23 September 1559. Prior to his execution, he served his local congregation as a speaker/minister. He was reported to authorities and apprehended. He was imprisoned at the city hall, where he was then questioned by local priests and clergy and given a chance to recant his views. Bosch refused to compromise on his anabaptist views regarding the sacraments. His refusal to comply was seen as a criminal offense, and Bosch was subsequently sentenced to death by public execution. His last words are reported to be "O Lord, into Thy hands I commend my spirit," which he repeated several times before dying.
