Congratulations!

Congrats. Good job. DC TC 05:06, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
Thanks DC ;)--White Shadows Your guess is as good as mine 19:33, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

Congratulations, White Shadow, you've come a long way. Bravo! I look forward to the time when I'm able to actively edit again; I do miss working with you and the others. =) --Twilight Helryx 19:43, 6 November 2010 (UTC)

Thanks TH. The truth is though, "the others" no longer exist. Most of the people that I've met and have some sort of friendship with on-wiki have left. There is still guys like HJ, Wehwalt, Soap, you, and some others but (some) people whom we did collaborations on for the WWII article are retired.--White Shadows Your guess is as good as mine 19:48, 6 November 2010 (UTC)
Ah, pity. Still, hope to see them again at some point. I've finally started moving beyond the realm of fiction and started working on "real life" articles, but school's keeping me tied up for the moment. Currently, my wiki-goal is to get Doberman Pinscher promoted to GA status. Still needs plenty of cleanup, especially with the citations. I can see you're good with German ships and submarines. How's for German dog breeds? =3 --Twilight Helryx 21:01, 6 November 2010 (UTC)
Fairly lousy to be honest. I'm "good" at German/Austrian ships/U-boats because of the sources that I have on them. I don't have any sources on dogs...--White Shadows Your guess is as good as mine 21:12, 6 November 2010 (UTC)
Had to ask. =P I understand; on my end, I hardly have any sources on any form of machinery. ;) Thanks anyway. =) Cheers!--Twilight Helryx 21:21, 6 November 2010 (UTC)

WikiCup 2010 October newsletter

The 2010 WikiCup is over! It has been a long journey, but what has been achieved is impressive: combined, participants have produced over seventy featured articles, over five hundred good articles, over fifty featured lists, over one thousand one hundred "did you know" entries, in addition to various other pieces of recognised content. A full list (which has yet to be updated to reflect the scores in the final round) can be found here. Perhaps more importantly, we have our winner! The 2010 WikiCup champion is Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions), with an unbelievable 4220 points in the final round. Second place goes to New Orleans TonyTheTiger (submissions), with 2260, and third to New South Wales Casliber (submissions), with 560. Congratulations to our other four finalists – White Shadows (submissions), William S. Saturn (submissions), Connecticut Staxringold (submissions) and Colombia ThinkBlue (submissions). Also, congratulations to Hungary Sasata (submissions), who withdrew from the competition with an impressive 2685 points earlier in this round.

Prizes will also be going to those who claimed the most points for different types of content in a single round. It was decided that the prizes would be awarded for those with the highest in a round, rather than overall, so that the finalists did not have an unfair advantage. Winning the featured article prize is New South Wales Casliber (submissions), for five featured articles in round 4. Winning the good article prize is Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions), for eighty-one good articles in round 5. Winning the featured list prize is Connecticut Staxringold (submissions), for six featured lists in round 1. Winning the picture and sound award is Jujutacular (submissions), for four featured pictures in round 3. Winning the topic award is Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions), for forty-seven articles in various good topics in round 5. Winning the "did you know" award is New Orleans TonyTheTiger (submissions), for over one hundred did you knows is round 5. Finally, winning the in the news award is Republic of Ireland Candlewicke (submissions), for nineteen articles in the news in round three.

The WikiCup has faced criticism in the last month – hopefully, we will take something positive from it and create a better contest for next year. Like Wikipedia itself, the Cup is a work in progress, and ideas for how it should work are more than welcome on the WikiCup talk page and on the scoring talk page. Also, people are more than welcome to sign up for next year's competition on the signup page. Well done and thank you to everyone involved – the Cup has been a pleasure to run, and we, as judges, have been proud to be a part of it. We hope that next year, however the Cup is working, and whoever is running it, it will be back, stronger and more popular than ever. Until then, goodbye and happy editing! Explanation

Re:this - This might help answer your questions. In short: Rlevse wrote a number of articles which plagiarized their sources. A number of these ran on DYK. Of particular note is Grace Sherwood, which was the featured article on Halloween (until the plagiarism allegations surfaced and I pulled it and replaced it with a hurricane article). Malleus helped copyedit the Sherwood while it was at FAC. So although he had nothing to do with the plagiarized sections, people are faulting him for it. And that's the story in a nutshell - that's why FAC and DYK are highly frenetic right now. Raul654 (talk) 03:47, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

Thank you Raul for the reply. I'm a regular at DYK (or at least used to be, I hope to be more active there in the near future again) and I was gone yesterday so all of this came to me in a matter of minutes when I logged on today.--White Shadows Your guess is as good as mine 03:51, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

Triple Crown

Y' know that you qualify for two Wikipedia:Triple Crowns due to your work? Buggie111 (talk) 20:01, 25 November 2010 (UTC)

you want to nominate me then? It's kinda rude for my to nominate myself...--White Shadows Your guess is as good as mine 21:19, 25 November 2010 (UTC)
You can nominate yourself, it is not considered a huge deal.--Wehwalt (talk) 21:53, 25 November 2010 (UTC)
Alright....I don't really have the time right now though...maybe later :)--White Shadows Your guess is as good as mine 21:54, 25 November 2010 (UTC)
That is just it, filling out the Triple Crown application is a pain in the neck ... I've never bothered to upgrade mine, just too much bother.--Wehwalt (talk) 22:09, 25 November 2010 (UTC)
Alright....I did it. I'm able to get another one too with that FL.--White Shadows Your guess is as good as mine 00:17, 26 November 2010 (UTC)
Congrats.--Wehwalt (talk) 00:35, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

Turkish Ships

Need any help on the list? I'm open for work. Buggie111 (talk) 16:40, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

Sure! Take a look at the FLC. There are 2 remaining issues left. BTW, are we going to nominate SMS EFF for the mainpage soon?--White Shadows Your guess is as good as mine 16:44, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
I'd like it to coincide with an anniversary. More of a chance to get on. So far, it only obtains 1 point. Buggie111 (talk) 16:54, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
We have nothing to loose though....What's the worst that can happen? They say no?--White Shadows Your guess is as good as mine 19:24, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
Eh, maybe brownie points will disappear? I think the other footnote can be found in Ottoman Steam Navy. I'll go put the nom up if you think it's ok. Buggie111 (talk) 19:42, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
Sure, just add my name in there with yours I'll go back in a bit to confirm my co-nom with you :)--White Shadows Your guess is as good as mine 19:44, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
Any date that you could suggest? Buggie111 (talk) 20:42, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
Not really, sometime in late December? The 22nd is fine.--White Shadows Your guess is as good as mine 21:35, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
You should start putting Sokol into SMS Zrinyi. We are aiming to get that to FA, are we? Buggie111 (talk) 00:06, 28 November 2010 (UTC)
Yes, we are :-)--White Shadows Your guess is as good as mine 00:50, 28 November 2010 (UTC)
Nice work, I only had a chance to glance at it. I'm "on tour" and it is difficult to find many consecutive hours to settle down and evaluate stuff or do serious writing--Wehwalt (talk) 12:33, 28 November 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. I know what you mean. I've had a lot of stuff going on for the past month and today's a travel day for me.--White Shadows Your guess is as good as mine 15:27, 28 November 2010 (UTC)

Arbitration Case

Communicat has a case before the ArbCom and, in discussion prior to the case being accepted by ArbCom, I mentioned that you had experienced negative interactions with Communicat. Let me start by naming others with whom Communicat has had similar negative interactions, as the Committee may wish to either involve them or review the interactions: Arnoutf, Parsecboy, Binksternet, Paul Siebert, Moxy, and White Shadows. Those interactions have not been universally negative, though mostly so.

This prompted Communicat to write the onus is on Habap to inform those editors that he has involved them, so that they may speak for themselves, if at all. at Wikipedia talk:Arbitration/Requests/Case/World War II. In the arbitration case, Communicat alleges anti-Soviet bias by the members of the WikiProject Military History, specifically naming Edward321, Hohum, Nick-D, Georgewilliamherbert and me. If you would like to present evidence, you would do so on the Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/World War II/Evidence page. If you disagree with my characterization of your interactions as being "mostly negative", it would be appreciated if you would state that on the evidence page to clarify the matter.

I apologize for involving you in this process as I am sure you have more enjoyable things to do. --Habap (talk) 14:59, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

You do not have to do anything if you do not want to. ArbCom has nothing against you. You may wish to keep an eye on the matter, and certainly you can submit evidence.--Wehwalt (talk) 15:01, 1 December 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for letting me know of this matter guys. I was actually in the process of listening to Christmas Lights for the 500th time what I got this ;)--White Shadows Those Christmas lights 02:46, 2 December 2010 (UTC)
I'd rather not get involved to be honest. I want to keep my nose clean as I hopeful have been for the past 8 months or so. I hope that it's OK with the members of Arbcom if I decline to actively partake in this case. If they need to interview or contact me, they may certainly do so and I will cooperate in such matters but outside of that, I'm merely going to watch list the case for now. Hope this is OK guys. All the best,--White Shadows Those Christmas lights 02:52, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

Question

Is there any way to know what U-boat sunk a certain ship? I'm working on C. D. Howe and the ship he was on was sunk from under him (the S.S. Western Prince on 14 December 1940). Thanks.--Wehwalt (talk) 13:36, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

Of course! I'll post back here once I find it. It may take a day or two as I'm busy. (Hence the fact that I've made less than 200 edits for the past few months)--White Shadows Those Christmas lights 00:07, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
I know what you are doing, and it is what you should be doing. No excuses necessary. You have a good sense of priorities.--Wehwalt (talk) 00:09, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
Many thanks Wehwalt! BTW, while I'm online, I thought that I should just get this done with so here you go. The Western Prince was sunk by the German Submarine U-96. Here is the Uboat.net link to the ship as well if you want to take a look. [1].--White Shadows Those Christmas lights 00:14, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, appreciate it.--Wehwalt (talk) 00:18, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
Hey, I'll be here all week ;)--White Shadows Those Christmas lights 00:25, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
Well, if I have any more Canadian ministers who had their ships shot out from under them, you're number one on my list to call.--Wehwalt (talk) 00:35, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
Nice to know :)--White Shadows Those Christmas lights 01:03, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

Main page appearance

Hello! This is a note to let the main editors of this article know that it will be appearing as the main page featured article on December 22, 2010. You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/December 22, 2010. If you think it is necessary to change the main date, you can request it with the featured article director, Raul654 (talk · contribs). If the previous blurb needs tweaking, you might change it—following the instructions of the suggested formatting. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page so Wikipedia doesn't look bad. :D Thanks! Tbh®tchTalk © Happy Holidays 03:49, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

Congrats on your first TFA, WS, you earned it. You did an excellent job in the push to get the article from A to FA. Weren't you going to try to get Zrinyi to FA as well? Parsecboy (talk) 04:31, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, we are. Sokol needs to be added into it before anything else can be done. Buggie111 (talk) 14:25, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
Excellent work, WS, and I hope the joy of having your work on the 7th most popular web site in the world is worth the trouble of writing the article. Save lots of copies to email to your grandchildren!--Wehwalt (talk) 15:17, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
Don't worry. I will ;) To parsec, yes I was planning on doing so. During Christmas break I'll start the long and laborious task of adding in Sokol, fixing grammar and citation errors and adding in info that the article is currently lacking.--White Shadows Those Christmas lights 11:54, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
It's on Yay!--White Shadows Those Christmas lights 00:36, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
Well done, you should feel justifiably proud of that. Malleus Fatuorum 01:22, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
Thanks Mallues. I remember that you once told me that I'd get there....never though it would actually happen. Let's see someone call my work sub-par now ;)--White Shadows Those Christmas lights 02:57, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
There's no shortage of people who'll knock whatever you've done, or whatever anyone else has done, because they take a fundamental objection to the way that they've deployed commas, formatted their citations, or whatever else. But who cares. You've come an awfully long way this year; you should be even more proud of that than this TFA. I promise you, after your first half-dozen or so the magic wears off anyway. ;-) Malleus Fatuorum 03:19, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
Not that many teenage high-schoolers get their work on the main page of the 6th most visited website in the world. The magic will live on for a while...perhaps until I go off to college. Thanks for the compliment Malleus. I hold that in high esteem coming from you. If everything works out, SMS Zrinyi will be next on the main page in some months.--White Shadows Those Christmas lights 03:32, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
My final thought before I bore you to death is that you've learned a valuable lesson about research that will stand you in good stead when you get to college. Enjoy your day in the sun, you deserve it. Malleus Fatuorum 03:41, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
Thanks Malleus. I know that my work here today will do much to further me tomorrow. Goodnight ;)--White Shadows Those Christmas lights 03:48, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

Well, as it has become well known, I'm way less active than I was over the summer. I don't have that much free time right now and Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of battleships of the Ottoman Empire/archive1 has two outstanding set of comments that need addressing. Can anyone fill in for me over there until this Friday? (That's when I start my break and I'll have more free time). If anyone can help out, many thanks to you.
