No, I'm not talking about your boss, your homework, being stuck in traffic or even all the things on your to do list. I'm talking about the tightness between your shoulders that can cause pain up into your head, down your arms, sometimes in your chest and can even feel like a sharp pain deep in your inner ear. To explain how and why this happens, let me start with an anatomy lesson. The main muscle group involved is called the trapezius. It is so named due to its trapezoid shape, like a…

Dr. Adam McCluskey PT, DPT on Instagram: "❌This small muscle could be causing your neck and shoulder pain! (Full Program @theptinitiative Bio Link)
—
There is a small muscle that connects the shoulder blade to the neck, and can be really problematic if it gets overactive and tight.
—
It’s called the Levator Scapulae and it is a common source of neck pain and shoulder blade movement problems.
—
This muscle helps you elevate your shoulder blade, and bend your neck to the side, but can limit your ability to lift your arm overhead optimally if it’s restricted.
—
To begin fixing this issue I recommend doing this active Levator Scapulae release technique with a lacrosse ball to decrease the tonicity and tightness of this muscle.
—
Then we need to actively reinforce this new position by training Scapula Pain, Shoulder Blade Muscles, Neck Spasms, Levator Scapulae, Muscles Of The Neck, Neck Muscles, Muscle Imbalance, Body Exercises, Neck Pain Relief

This results in the pulling, tension and discomfort you are feeling in your neck and head. The goals of this exercise from the postural restoration institute are to help you expand into this muscle and give that muscle a break. Trust me it’s a great one that I use often 👏🏻 💆‍♀️!
