These were mostly made in Venice in the 18th and 19th century and were used as on official currency in Africa. They are very scarce and now you rarely see theme in pristine condition. All the beads were flat and oval except for one. l have made matching round beads for this necklace. Other beads are Mexican Turquoise, Bamboo Coral and a range of other spacer beads. I have also used two 'evil eye' beads which are considered as good luck.
