Founded in 1948, the Sphinx company was a British manufacturer, famous for its excellent quality costume jewelry. In addition to their own collections, often whimsical but always elegant, they have created jewelry for many talented artists and high-end stores, in Europe and the United States (Kenneth Jay Lane, Butler & Wilson, Nina Ricci, Caura, Fried Paris, Saks 5th Ave., Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdales, Mark & Spencer...). Most pieces are signed with the name "SPHINX" in an oval cartouche, including an included number and sometimes a letter - or without the name Sphinx, just a number or a letter and a number. Some pieces are not signed. They were produced for clients who sold them under their brand.
