No, Apple disabled support for web sockets on the watch and basically stated that it was an error that they didn't disable it previously.

Ohhh Thanks for clarifying.
I wonder if they are shifting towards a different padaigm. This is a a hunch given that push notifications are changing and will support "live updates". Some kind of fanning with categories, I have a feeling that can be an implementation. I am so curious to experiment on swift side as a POC.
