SafeLine.gr, Greece’s hotline for reporting illegal online content, has become the first officially recognised Trusted Flagger in the country under the European Union’s Digital Services Act (DSA). Operating as part of the Greek Safer Internet Center under FORTH, SafeLine has worked since 2003 to combat issues such as child exploitation, hate speech, and online scams. This recognition marks a milestone in its enduring commitment to making the internet safer for everyone.

As a Trusted Flagger, SafeLine can now report illegal content directly to major platforms like social networks and search engines, ensuring faster removal and more effective action. This status enhances its ability to protect users and ensure compliance with the DSA’s regulations.

The Digital Services Act (DSA) aims to create a safer online environment by requiring platforms, especially "very large online platforms and very large online search engines", to take proactive steps against illegal content while respecting user rights. The DSA emphasises protecting key rights from the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights, including the best interests of the child, freedom of expression, non-discrimination, and data protection. Platforms accessible to minors must also ensure high levels of privacy, security, and protection.

SafeLine’s recognition as a Trusted Flagger strengthens its role in safeguarding digital spaces and protecting vulnerable users, especially children, across Greece and beyond.
