Making terra sigillata involves mixing water and a suitable raw clay powder with a small quantity of deflocculant. This is left to settle, and the deflocculant helps separate fine and coarse clay particles. Once settled, the top layer is siphoned off and condensed down through evaporation to create terra sigillata.

adrea davina beres on Instagram: "Real time vs Reel time. A lot of my work is decorated with texture and once it is bone dry then gets 3 coats of terra sigillata. This has to be applied and buffed in small sections at a time, otherwise you miss the window of opportunity to buff it before it becomes too dry. This gives it a waxy type sheen and the coverage I am after. For a vase this size each coat takes me about 7 minutes, so roughly 21 minutes total (mugs take longer because of the handle)…
