We look forward to another year of impact! #insuranceforcoexistencewithnature #sustainablefinance
Highlight 5 of 10 in 2024 | We've walked a purposeful and collaborative journey, putting in the steps to implement, replicate and scale viable finance solutions. 🐘 It has been a hugely successful year working with AB Entheos Ltd. to support the replication of their finance solution: Human-Wildlife Conflict Insurance. From a successful high-level Roundtable in South Africa to securing funding for feasibility studies and a consultative forum in Zambia, we are excited to see what 2025 will hold to scale this unique and important solution for both biodiversity and livelihoods. We commend Barbara Chesire Anne Kamau Betty Chebet and team. 🌿 The Protected Areas Tax Incentive reached a major milestone of unlocking USD 30 Million in South Africa and we continued to raise awareness of different types of Environmental Fiscal Benefits available. This started with a cross-country workshop in the Greater Kruger, focusing on the OECM and Threatened Species Tax Incentive, with further workshops planned for 2025. Conservation champions from Angola and Kenya gathered at our Tsavo Coexistence Camp last week for the 11th Training of Trainers program. Representatives from the Elephant Protection Initiative and the National Institute for Biodiversity and Conservation Areas joined through our Elephant Crisis Fund network. Alongside participants from the Taita Taveta Wildlife Conservancies Association, AB Entheos, and Garden of Hope, the trainees spent three days learning how to live peacefully with elephants. This impactful program equips community leaders and organisations with essential tools from our Human-Elephant Coexistence Toolbox. So far, 185 individuals from across Africa have participated in this training, bringing practical solutions to communities with elephants as neighbours. Together, we’re building a future where coexistence thrives! 🧑💼🐘💚 📸 Aashman Wason/Save the Elephants #humanelephantcoexistence #trainingoftrainers #elephantdeterrents #HECtoolbox #savetheelephants #elephantcrisisfund #training #tsavo #kenya #angola

This week, our Claims Analyst Morris Munene is away from his desk in Nairobi and is rolling up his sleeves and joining part of the team he supervises in Taita Taveta. Our Community Verification Officers (CVOs) play an important role in ensuring that human-wildlife conflict (HWC) claims that are reported by communities are attended to within the shortest time possible to safeguard evidence and ensure communities are compensated. We have partnered with Save the Elephants and joined their training on mitigation strategies for HWC informed by extensive research on animal behavior and on field exercises. The training is aimed at building capacity and skills to keep animals away from human settlements. This would in turn improve the perception and attitudes people have towards wildlife and improve coexistence. The Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife has contracted a consortium of insurance players to digitize the human-wildlife conflict compensation process and launched a pilot in 6 hot spot counties. The aim of this project is to strive to have humans and wildlife co-existing and thriving in landscapes together.
