#CelebratingMilestones! On December 6th, Kenya was officially recognised as a Pathfinder Country under Alliance 8.7! The Kenyan roadmap was presented by Ms. Hellen Apiyo, Labour Commissioner spotlighting the key strategies that will drive meaningful change. Kenya's Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, with support from the International Labour Organization (ILO) CAPSA, Free the Slaves (FTS), Counter trafficking in persons Secretariat, Federation of Kenyan Employers, Central Organization of Trade Unions (Kenya), Awareness Against Human Trafficking (HAART Kenya), Terres de Hommes, ANPPCAN Regional, Kenya Alliance For Advancement of Children alongside many other stakeholders in Kenya has been developing a Roadmap to support Kenya in accelerating its efforts in combating child labour, forced labour, trafficking, and modern slavery. Initial meetings began in early 2023, followed by thematic data collection and stakeholder engagements throughout the year. #HAARTKenya represented by Winnie Mutevu led the Trafficking in Persons cluster, playing a key role in shaping the Roadmap. In March 2024, a strategic workshop brought together 60 stakeholders to review progress and set priorities. Collaborative efforts continued through online and in-person meetings to refine strategies further. From 26th - 30th August 2024, the Technical Working Group convened in Naivasha to integrate all components of the Roadmap into a final document. On October 9th, Grace Banya, the National Project Manager for ILO CAPSA, shared a comprehensive roadmap with Mr. Shadrack Mwangolo Mwadime, Principal Secretary for Labour and Skills Development at the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, outlining Kenya's bid to become a Pathfinder Country under the Alliance 8.7 initiative. On November 14th, the final roadmap was officially approved during the CAPSA project close-out meeting. This was a huge win for the technical working group and all the stakeholders who’ve been involved in shaping this plan over the last two years! With organized crime on the rise, it’s more important than ever to ramp up efforts, and we’re proud to back the Kenyan government in this vital mission. #FightHumanTrafficking
🌍 Exciting Milestones at the 19th GCG Meeting! We are thrilled to welcome Kenya and Brazil as new Pathfinder Countries under Alliance 8.7! Both nations have demonstrated remarkable commitment to advancing the fight against child labour, forced labour, and human trafficking by presenting their national roadmaps toward achieving SDG Target 8.7. Kenya: Ms. Hellen Apiyo, Labour Commissioner, led the presentation of Kenya’s roadmap, showcasing strategic initiatives aimed at creating meaningful change. Brazil: Mr. Guilherme Schuck Candemil, Head of the International Affairs Division of the Brazilian Labour Inspectorate, presented Brazil’s comprehensive SDG roadmap, underscoring the nation’s leadership in driving impactful action. These roadmaps highlight the power of collaboration and dedication in addressing exploitation worldwide. Together, we move closer to achieving a world free from child labour, forced labour, and human trafficking. Let’s continue this momentum! 💡 #PathfinderCountries #Achieve87

Confronting the Growing Threat of Human Trafficking 🌎 🚨 The latest 2024 Global Report on Trafficking in Persons (GLOTiP) by the UNODC highlights urgent issues that demand targeted responses: 📌Children at increasing risk: 38% of detected victims are children, with distinct exploitation patterns—girls primarily for sexual exploitation and boys for forced labour. 📌Forced labor overtakes sexual exploitation as the most common form of trafficking, yet justice systems lag in addressing it effectively. 📌Africa remains a hotspot: Victims are trafficked from the continent to more destinations than any other region due to displacement, climate crises, and insecurity. 📌Organized crime networks dominate trafficking operations, requiring coordinated efforts to dismantle these structures. Based on our experience and as highlighted in this report, to address these trends we have some key steps that we must take: ✅Prioritize prosecution of forced labor cases and other emerging trafficking forms like forced criminality. ✅Equip child protection and social services to identify and respond to child trafficking early. ✅Develop sustainable legal migration pathways to reduce vulnerability among displaced populations. ✅Enhance international cooperation to tackle cross-border trafficking effectively. ✅Ensuring that migration takes place in a safe, orderly and dignified manner. The report makes clear that trafficking patterns are shifting, and so must our strategies. It's time for actionable, evidence-based interventions to protect those at risk and dismantle trafficking networks. In line with this, listen in to HAART's insights on the latest GLOTiP report on BBC Swahili News today evening between 6:30pm - 7:30pm! 👉🏾 Access the full report and join the effort: https://shorturl.at/9RdQg #EndHumanTrafficking #PolicyAction #HAARTKenya

Meet Rose, a resilient survivor of human trafficking under the HAART economic empowerment program.🤗 Rose ventured into the wood-selling business as a source of her livelihood which has enabled her to provide for her family's basic needs.
