🌳A call for hope for our forests and biodiversity! 🍂On 12 December 2024, the Madagascar Protected Areas Consortium presented ‘Madagascar Protected Area Outlook 2024’ report, a decisive step in the protection of our natural heritage. This report reveals a worrying situation, but also opportunities to preserve our forests and the unique species that depend on them. 🪵In-depth analysis of the 109 terrestrial Protected Areas in Madagascar's Protected Areas System (SAPM) reveals that almost 90% of primary forest cover is destroyed mainly by human action. Without intervention, half of the remaining forest cover in these Protected Areas will be destroyed by 2026. 🌲But there is still hope. Madagascar's Protected Areas, which are home to biodiversity treasures such as the Silky Sifaka, the Aye-Aye and the Radiated Tortoise, can be saved through concrete action, increased support and enhanced management. 🌴There's still time to act! Together, with innovative solutions and international mobilisation, we can preserve this irreplaceable heritage for future generations. 🗣 Let's work together to fight this scourge, for the sake of future generations.
