Why I Teach

Why I Teach

What motivates over 5,000 teachers in MNPS to show up, inspire, and spark wonder for our students every day? Why does someone decide to become a teacher?

The Nashville Public Education Foundation is shining a light on our teachers, exploring their own motivations while uncovering their impact on our students, through a series of teacher profiles, community conversations, and policy discussions.

A Day in the Life of a Teacher

NPEF's new short film, "Why I Teach," follows three Metro Nashville Public Schools teachers through a day in their lives as public school teachers. Watch as they prepare their classrooms, deliver engaging lessons for their students, grade papers, collaborate with other educators, and complete the many responsibilities teachers juggle through the course of a school day. Hear directly from teachers about the challenges they face and the joyful moments that keep them motivated to teach each and every day.

"Why I Teach" shares a realistic overview of the daily duties of public school teachers, and aims to dispel myths about the teaching profession while highlighting the incredible talent and dedication of our teachers.
