A museum quality hand crafted 1870s necklace in luxurious solid 14K yellow gold decorated with fine hand guilloche enamel work and set with a natural emerald and earth mined fine rubies. This one of a kind exceptional necklace has strong arts and craft movement influences. In the 1870s there was a reaction away from machine production and mass production of all items. Craftsman wanted to reproduce the hand made goods of earlier periods. They were strongly influenced by the ideal of the medieval craftsmen and also influenced by exotic cultures. The choice of vivid enamel in this piece is inspired by early renaissance and medieval jewelry. There is also clear reference to fine jewelry from India and Morocco. It's a unique item which was custom made at the time true to the ideals and spirit of the day. Each delicate link has been entirely hand crafted. The detail is astonishing. It is in perfect condition which is testament to how beautifully made it is. Despite being feminine and delicate in it's design it is also strong enough to survive in mint condition for almost 150 years. In total it weighs 13.23 grams.
