A simple approach to advent through a Christian liturgical method. Each week gives a guide for what to discuss. You can format this into 25 days, or simply spend a longer period of time discussing on each of the Sundays of advent. How you use this guide is up to you. I have included an advent prayer recitation for each Sunday during the candle lighting. Feel free to choose a scripture to memorize and recite here, a hymn to memorize and sing, or your own prayer. There are many traditional advent prayers that can be substituted here as well. I have included a "Take if Further" section that is completely open-ended. It simply recommends that you choose a hymn, craft, recipe, or service project to complete each week. At the back of the study I have included some of our favorites. This is a wonderful opportunity to add in your own family preferences and rhythms. I would love to know that you are weaving in your own family recipes, traditions, or cultural celebrations such as Saint Lucia's Day, Posadas or others! Please use the hashtag #asignisgivenadvent This is not a prescription for advent, but rather a guide and encouragement. I hope you will use it as a starting off point to help your family treasure the holy and beautiful nature of this season. Advent is not meant to be rushed or hurried. It is not meant to be overfilled with activities. May your celebrations weave naturally into the fabric of your family's life and may the worship and wonder of our Savior ever be a part of it. Each week of this guide has a different Biblical focus: Week 1: Prophecy and Fulfillment Week 2: The Story of Jesus' Birth Week 3: God as Shepherd Week 4: God and us as Bringers of Peace Christmas Day: Salvation
