An ornate Victorian locket in the Etruscan Revival style. In the late half of the 1800s, Victorians were so impressed by the Etruscan artifacts found in northwestern Italy that they began to copy the Etruscans'detailed designs in their own jewelry. The Etruscan style is identified by its ball work, small beading or granulation, and cording. The locket hangs from a large decorative bail echoing the granulation around the oval frame. The thick center design is raised up above the background of scallops and granulation. Inside is a photo of a young child in overalls holding a straw hat. The locket snaps securely. An exceptional and detailed piece.
