Georgian Pansy "Regard" Acrostic Ring

Acrostic rings like this one were beloved by the private and sentimental Victorians. The style first appeared in the early 19th century, and remained popular through the end of the Victorian period. Using precious gems, jewelers spelled out names and sweet nothings like LOVE, ADORE, or the rather stiff, but very popular, REGARD as seen in this lovely late Georgian ring. Doubling down on the sentimentality, the ruby, emerald, garnet, amethyst, ruby, diamond of this acrostic ring are arranged in the shape of a pansy, which in the language of flowers meant “think of me.”
