About this app

Lookout uses computer vision and generative AI to assist people with low vision or blindness in getting things done faster and more easily. Using your phone's camera, Lookout makes it easier to get more information about the world around you and do daily tasks more efficiently like reading text & documents, sorting mail, putting away groceries, and more.

Built in collaboration with the blind and low-vision community, Lookout supports Google's mission to make the world's information universally accessible to everyone.

Lookout offers seven modes:

• Text: Scan text and hear it read aloud while doing things like sorting mail and reading signs, using Text mode.

• Documents: Capture a whole page of text or handwriting using Documents mode. Available in over 30 languages.

• Explore: Identify objects, people, and text in surroundings using Explore mode.

• Currency: Identify banknotes quickly and reliably using Currency mode, with support for US Dollars, Euros, and Indian Rupees.

• Food labels: Identify packaged foods by their label or barcodes using Food labels mode. Available in over 20 countries.

• Find: Scan surroundings to find objects like doors, bathrooms, cups, vehicles, and more using Find mode. Find mode can also tell you the direction and distance to the object, depending on device capabilities.

• Images: Capture, describe, and ask questions about an image using Images mode. Image descriptions and Q&A available globally in English only.

Lookout is available in more than 30 languages, and runs on devices with Android 6 and above. Devices with 2GB or more RAM are recommended.

When I updated your app yesterday there was a choice to increase or decrease a volume panel. There was also something that said ask a question. That has disappeared. What happened? Any ideas? ••••••• It's good • It can be improved • I suggest adding "zoom in / zoom out" for the "Discovery" option • At the moment it's picking up too many objects in its sight. • Also: It needs an easy access speed control slider and pitch control slider.

The OCR feature of this a11y app works well but the other features that I tested all failed badly. It did not recognise two different sets of neat handwriting, the large product download failed and it did not recognise most of the objects in explore mode when trying to navigate my home. Although I understand why as much data is required for training as possible uploading such sensitive data to Google should be optional rather than forced.

Thank you for the feedback. For the handwriting, did you try using Document mode, with the setting enabled for "Improved image recognition"? If the problem persists, please contact our technical support team at http://g.co/disabilitysupport. For data upload, you may wish to review the consent, as we've clarified what we do and don't collect.

#a11y: Can I help to improve this app by connecting it to Google lens & crowdsource so that these apps can deliver info to each other for improving them =training modus? I wish "guided frame" were included so that this technique can help to focus the camera on objects + it were possible to sign in for beta-versions outside the USA, Canada & UK. Thanks in advance. I'm very happy with the ability of reading handwritings!!!
